” You don’t stop stop piracy by blowing up a single pirate ship or even a fleet of pirate ships. In some manner or form, crimes of all variance and severity will happen. While stopping a crime before it happens is noble and deserves some merit if nothing else, it’s the ability to understand and the context within that understanding why that crime was committed that truly matters. It is context, not justice that brings about reform and change in the legal system.

Services like aggressive forms of DRM are detrimental to both sales, and the consumer. When I buy a loaf of bread, I don’t have to sign a waiver saying that if my bread is bad or moldy, I can’t return it. When I buy a loaf of bread, I don’t have to only eat the loaf of bread at the store I purchased the loaf of bread at. When I buy a loaf of bread, I don’t have to sign off saying I agree to use the bread in only the manners specified by the baker of the bread. When I buy a loaf of bread, I don’t have to download a third party application that then allows me to eat my bread in only the specified mannerisms chosen by the baker or face possible prosecution. When I buy a loaf of bread, I don’t have to read a near 6000 word EULA agreement [the rough length of the Mcafee EULA agreement] just so I can eat the bread in only the specified mannerisms chosen by the baker of the bread or face possible prosecution. When I buy a loaf of bread, I don’t then have to buy a second loaf of bread to then bring to a friends because the EULA agreement I signed told me that by purchasing my loaf of bread, I have then automatically agreed to only eat the bread at my home and that if I don’t eat the loaf of bread I purchased at my home, I may face legal prosecution because I brought the bread that I already purchased to a friend’s home.

And yet, all those things I don’t have to worry about when I buy a loaf of bread, I do have to worry about when purchasing any digital product, or product with a digital end. If you want to slow down the rate at which your games, music, or really any media is being pirated, the above are good things to get rid of if you want to start. “
